We once again welcome you to a night of beautifully crafted music by wonderfully talented artists, John Johanna and Tenderness, at Blue Shop Gallery on Thursday 27th February.

Having first seen him play many moons ago at the End of the Road festival, fast forward to today—he’s been teasing us with a new album set to drop imminently. We knew we had to have John Johanna grace our stage at the Gallery for a very intimate first (or possibly second, but who’s counting anyway?) showing of his new material.

From what we’ve been told, the fervent oddball spirituals of previous records have given way to songs that reveal a devout belief in the undiminished power of voice and acoustic guitar to produce fresh and living forms of lyrical expression—and we’re here for it!

Opening the night, we’ve managed to snatch Tenderness—the first solo project from Katy Beth Young of Peggy Sue and Deep Throat Choir. Serving weird country songs about romance, grief rituals, friendship, and texting—inspired in equal parts by the small, perfect pop songs of Patsy Cline and Lesley Gore, seasoned with the intricate arrangements of Hand Habits, Yo La Tengo, and Big Thief. In other words, we’ve got a programme packed with flavour!

As always, this is a DIY setting, so BYOB—just skip the red wine, as the paintings on the walls would rather not deal with any unwanted liquids.
